“Colour is a deeply emotive subject. For most of us it is also highly personal, we each have a unique response to colour that we develop individually through experience and association”

Ptolemy Mann uses intelligent colour theory and approaches spatial colour application from an intuitive and logical perspective for domestic, corporate and public projects and spaces. In the role of lead artist and colour consultant on several PFI Hospital projects she has established a unique knowledge of how colour can be integrated into both the internal and external scheme of a complex healthcare environment. With an emphasis on external architectural facades Mann researches and produces relevant, articulate colour schemes for any type of building; using colour application through a diverse range of materials to give a scheme identity and context within its surroundings, often aiding a successful planning application.

Other colour projects include the curation of a multidisciplinary exhibition called ‘Significant Colour’ for the ARAM GALLERY in London in 2009 supported by the Arts Council; an extensive look at the real significance of colour across the disciplines of fine art, design, architecture and craft. Ptolemy Mann researches colour projects for DULUX TRADE and has written and lectured about colour at 100% Design and been a member of the Global Colour UK colour trend prediction panel.

Clients include: NHS, SKANSKA, Dulux, Derwent London, Building Better Health, Nightingale Associates, Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, Greenhill Jenner Architects, Stanton Williams Architects, David Morley Architects and ARAM.

“Ptolemy Mann challenges the way we 'see' or experience colour, whether designing colour schemes for a hospital or around a gallery; whatever it is, it is never white! She recognises that colour is a fundamental part of design, to be used to complement, optimise or quieten, as well as highlight physical features within a particular space.”
Ann H Noble, Marketing Manager, Colour, Dulux Trade

“A ray of sunlight! Ptolemy worked closely with the architectural team to develop an integrated design and colour concept that gave the building identity, spirit and coherence inside and out.”
Jonathan Wilson on Southmead PFI Bid Director, ANSHEN + ALLEN Architects (Former) Partner of David Morley Architects

"Ptolemy Mann added value through the seamless integration of a unique and complex approach to colour with the architecture of the project."
Howard Jeffrey BSc. MA. FCIOB on King’s Mill Hospital Design manager, BIM Specialist, Skanska Technology
